Pasion por Mexico – 4th Mexican Missions Conference
The city of Monterrey was the site of the 4th Mexican Missions Conference, titled “Pasion por Mexico” (Passion for Mexico) Hundreds of Christians from all over the country joined the 600-member Monterrey International Church of Christ for a weekend of worship, fellowship and Bible teaching. As one of the original members of the mission team that planted the Mexico City Church of Christ in 1987, each time I visit one of these conferences I am filled with deep emotion. We arrived in Mexico City, thirteen foreigners, with a few suitcases and a lot of dreams…yes, and a little faith: thirteen wide-eyed missionaries in the largest city of the Western Hemisphere! We knew we wouldn’t accomplish much unless we immersed ourselves into Mexico. And we did! Some of us got college degrees here…some got married here…some had children here! We preached God’s word not because it was a duty, but because we felt bonded to the people; their hopes and dreams and destiny were one with ours. And, as soul after soul responded to the gospel and was saved, we became more and more in love with this wonderful country and its people.
That is why, when I go back and see and hear and touch brothers and sisters from all over Mexico, it feels like a family reunion with all the children and grandchildren gathered around. And it makes me think that God has been very, very good to me and my family.
Nineteen years and counting! And lots of stories to tell…I hope I get to share many of them with you. Thanks for reading!
