Plans for 2008 … and Beyond!

Mission Diaries Logo small white.jpgSince 2006,the Missions Diaries has been publishing news, testimonials, historical reports and general ideas about mission work in Mexico and Central America. We do not track the number of visitors to the blog, and although we receive comments every now and then, we have not tried to make this a highly interactive site.

As we welcome a new year, I would like to invite our readers to send in their comments about the blog and what they would like to see in it. What would you like to read about and see in the Mission Diaries?

While we collect your comments, let me share with you a few plans that we have for 2008:

1. A video page – interviews and reports from the mission field

2. Reports and articles from guest writers

3. More historical reviews of mission work in Latin America by the ICOC

4. Design changes in the MCA Missions web page

5. More news about Bible teaching programs in Latin America

We’re also open to technical recommendations. Just be aware that my knowledge of this technology, and my time to learn and implement it, are very limited. Have mercy!

If you have ideas for fundraising or would like to participate in one of our mission programs, please send us an e-mail to mcamissions@mcamissions.org Also visit our MCA Missions web page for the 2008 Calendar of Events or if you want to contact one of the MCA churches.

May God bless you beyond your imagination in 2008 and beyond!

A Bittersweet Christmas Message

Mission Diaries Logo small white.jpgAt a time of year when most of us will be celebrating joyous family reunions, it is with great sadness that we would like to let our readers know that Donna Kay Wilson, known to many in Latin America as Donna Lamb, passed away this Saturday, December 22 in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

Donna and her husband Phil Lamb led the mission team that planted the Mexico City Church of Christ in 1987. For many years they oversaw the International Churches of Christ (ICOC) in Latin America and several of the ICOC-associated churches in Florida and the Southern U.S. She resigned from the ministry when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1998, and had been living with her family in Tennessee for the past few years. Although saddened by her departure, we are comforted by knowing that she is now in a better place and with the Lord.

Her children and extended family will have a funeral ceremony on Wednesday December 26. No details are available at this time.

Donna helped many women become Christians, and trained many of them as women’s ministers. The churches in Latin America will always remember her. To my family, and especially to my wife, she will always have a very special place in our hearts.

Goodbye, Donna Kay! We will see you again someday…

Intention and Renovation

Mission Diaries Logo small white.jpgThe holidays are here! Many of us will spend at least some time during the next few weeks thinking about 2008 and what changes we can make. I’m sure we won’t have a shortage of things to change or of people to suggest what we should change :-)

However, too many times we set out with great resolutions for the new year only to fail and end up right where we started. How do we overcome this tendency? Go to our Article of the Month: Intention and Renovation for some helpful ideas.

Peru: Spiritual Fruit in the Midst of Crisis

Mission Diaries Logo small white.jpgA few months ago a major earthquake hit the country of Peru, devastating several cities. One of them was Chincha, a city about 3 hours from the capital of Lima. Several disciples of the Lima Church had families in Chincha, so the church responded promptly by sending aid. Disciples made the trek to Chincha to help the families and also bring spiritual help.

The process of rebuilding has been slow. Many people are still homeless. But in the midst of difficult times, the word of God continues to impact people. Daniel Goicochea from Lima tells us that one young man, Carlos, was baptized. Later on his parents Carlos and Juana were also baptized. Three more people are studying the Bible. Please see this video (in Spanish) and be inspired!
